"Work like you don't need money", and other garbage phrases I don't agree with.

So there has been A LOT of talk lately around the water cooler, etc, about what you would do if you won the lottery (This past week's insane Powerball numbers may have had something to do with that).

A popular sub-theme with this would be the "would you or wouldn't you" game when it comes to whether or not you would remain part of the working world.  This leads in to our first "commonplace" phrase that irritates the Hell out of me:

"Work like you don't need the money" --  Uh......what???  If I didn't need money, my happy ass wouldn't be working AT ALL.  I would become a nomad....travelling the world from one end to the other.

"Everything happens for a reason" --  This is a no brainer, and therefore a stupid and pointless phrase.  Bad things happen to good people, and bad things happen to bad people.  Good things also happen to good people, and good things happen to bad people.  Shit just happens.

"Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" -- Okay....who actually says this???  I mean, seriously; I would write an ENTIRE post on the things that taste better than skinny feels.   Also, you don't have to be skinny to "feel good".  (Which, again, is probably a post unto itself).

"Blood is thicker than water" -- there really is a difference between being "related" and being "family".  Having the same genes as somebody doesn't automatically equal a free pass to being important.

"Money is the root of all evil" --  Now, this is just a flat out lie.  People are the root of all evil.  Don't blame your shitty attitude/actions on anyone/anything other than yourself.

Holiday Hoopla Pt 2

Christmas Day was a wonderful celebration of fun, friends, and family togetherness.  We started out the day actually sleeping in until 9:00.  (apparently a perk of having older kids).  Gifts were opened and thoroughly enjoyed.  The biggest hit this year were definitely the hoverboards.  Chris and Amber came down for dinner and stayed the night.  We were up into the wee hours eating, drinking, playing games and just enjoying each other as a family.

Holiday Hoopla Pt. 1

The day, Christmas Eve.  The air was palpable.  The calm before the storm.

I love bumbling around the house before anyone else is up; especially on Christmas Eve.  I know whats coming - excitement, joy, laughter, tears.  It truly is the best day of the year.

I am richly blessed and I know it.

Having my brother and his wife home for Christmas this year was a special treat.  We had a great Christmas Eve at mom and dads.

Who Do You Want To Be?

I'm following a blogger friend of mine, and using question prompts to help get out of a blog slump and have some cool things to write about.  The title of this post was one of the prompts.

"Who Do You Want To Be?"

This is a very tricky, but really quite easy question.  I want to be the woman that I am.  I want to make people happy, and make sure that I am happy.  I want to be an amazing wife, and a great mom. I want to be someone who inspires my co-workers, and the kind of friend that my friends know they can lean on.  Each one of these makes up the person I strive to be.

The Best Wife I Can Be

One of the things I love about Ross is he lets me be who I am.  In the almost 20 years that we've been together I have always felt comfortable in that fact.  He never doubts or diminishes my feelings, and even though we DON'T agree on each other's views all the time, I don't feel as though he judges me. We balance each other well, and I really like that about us.

An Awesome Mom

This one is HUGE for me.  There is nothing in this world more important to me than being a good mother to my boys.  I was so very blessed to have wonderful examples of what great moms are.  My mother and grandmother have shown me exactly what family truly means.  I am forever thankful for all the memories my parents filled my mind and heart with, and I sincerely hope that I have been able to do the same for my own children.

A Good Friend

My friendships are important to me, and even though I've been on this earth almost 40 years, I'm still learning what it is to be a good friend. I tend to keep people at a distance.  I don't share a lot of my worries or excitements because I often feel like it is something I need to work through on my own. I am working to be better at this.

Forever 21

Today is Dagan's 22nd birthday.....a birthday he won't get to celebrate in this earthly plane.  A birthday he will instead celebrate...
