*Disclaimer: This post contains profanity. If you don't like curse words, then don't read this post.*
So, I was walking downtown on my lunch break, because I needed to pay a bill at City Hall, and I am trying to do more walking because I'm endeavoring to make some healthier choices in my life (but that's a post for another day).
There was a group with two people in wheelchairs, two others with obvious mental disabilities, and their two helpers. We were standing at the crosswalk waiting for the light to change. There was also a man dressed in a business suit talking on his cell phone. One of the guys from the first group reached out to the man in the suit. He shook the man off while continuing to talk on his phone. The helper tried to control and redirect the young man in her group. He reached out to the suited man again, tugging on his jacket and made a loud noise. The business man shook him off and called him a "crazy C word" (he said the word, but I refuse to type that one). Shocked I said, "that was completely uncalled for". The suited man then told me to shut up and called me a "fat bitch". I replied "I'd rather be a fat bitch than a freaking asshole". The light changed and he walked away. I walked away. The group stayed put on the corner.
I was so angry and so upset, I was shaking. This all happened in probably less than 30 seconds; 30 completely unnecessary seconds. I hope that stupid suited guy falls in front of a bus. No, I don't but...
I wasn't angry or upset by what he said to me (although that was completely uncalled for, too). I was shocked, saddened, disgusted and infuriated that his response to this young man, that clearly faced some mental and physical challenges, was to call him a "crazy" C-bomb. The C word. The nastiest possible word to call someone that the English language has to offer.
Honestly, what is wrong with people? What goes on in that guys head, or his heart, really in his life to make him such a horrible person. He is someone's son. He is possibly someone's friend and/or spouse. Even worse, he is possibly someone's father. How does he treat those close in his life? What is he teaching his children?
This is one of those experiences that I will remember for a long time. Please remember to have empathy and compassion toward your fellowman. Do something kind today. Combat your personal incidents of ugliness by spreading kindness.

Some Simple Truths
Sometimes you just have to sit back and say, "Meh, that's the way life goes".
- Sometimes you just have to laugh at this drama filled, crazy world. I definitely get a giggle out of people who make mountains out of molehills, especially when they think everything is about them. #itsnotallaboutyou #notthecentreoftheuniverse
- Sometimes you need a sick day to get things organized.....even if you aren't really sick. #playinghookie #mentalhealthday
- Sometimes the only way to get through a conversation with a co-worker is over the phone, where they can't see you with your head in your hands or banging it against a wall. #pleaselearnyourjob #readyouremailsbeforeaskingmequestions
- Sometimes it's okay to say YES to that second bowl of popcorn #mydietstartstomorrow #itcouldhavebeencake
- Sometimes a bad day rears it's ugly head and knocks us off our axel. You need to remember to be kind to those around you, because there is no reason for your bad day to become theirs. #dountoothers #peaceloveandharmony
- Sometimes you have to be the jerk that cuts toxic people out of your life to keep yourself from going crazy. It's almost been a year since I removed a huge negative weight from my life. The drama may never bee fully gone (because people can't let things go), but it's no longer a factor in my life, which makes me happy. #dropthedrama #notasecondthought
- Sometimes you just have to switch off your brain and watch some reality tv #hellskitchen #biggestloser
- Sometimes you just have to have music blasting in the background of every situation; cooking, cleaning, working out #musicismyboyfriend #everythingsbetterwithmusic
- Sometimes people mistake their place in your life. Just because they THINK they are in your inner circle doesn't mean you have to put them there. You know who it is that you value, and just because people don't understand it's not them, it's no reason to change your value or belief system just to make them happy. #loyaltothosewhodeserveit #knowwhoyourtruefriendsare
- Sometimes praying for someone is better than cursing them #turntheothercheek #everyonematters
- Sometimes I wish we still lived in the pre-internet and pre-digital era, because the ability to compare wasn't everywhere. Sure you had the Jones' that lived down the street, or the boss' beautiful wife, but it wasn't on every platform known to men. Simple living is sooo appealing sometimes. #sometimesitsgoodtounplug #gooutsideforachange

Eighteen
I always knew I wanted to be a mother. Of course, I had other aspirations and dreams, but being a mother was always at the top of my list.
And then that day came, and I found out that I was, indeed, going to have a baby. I was still so much a kid myself, and nowhere near mature enough for the emotional responsibility that I was undertaking. But if nothing else, I was headstrong, maybe a little selfish, and refused to give up simply because someone thought I couldn't do it.
Each day of my pregnancy I felt more and more of my own childhood slipping away. The more my belly grew (which admittedly wasn't much with this pregnancy), the more like an adult I felt until the moment I pushed my son out into the world. I was someone's mother. I was his mother.
They were right, you know. It was incredibly hard, but so totally worth it. Being a very young mom shaped me in ways that I'm not even sure how to put into words. It was the single most defining moment of my life; and looking at what a wonderful young man he's grown into, I don't think I've done too bad a job. It wasn't done alone though.I couldn't have done it without the support of my family and the wonderful man who decided to step up and take this journey with me.
Preparing for this birthday of the one who made me a mom has been more difficult than I would like to admit. It's a major milestone. My baby is no longer a child. At eighteen, he's considered an adult; although in so many ways he is very much a child.
Dearest Andrew;
This birthday is a major milestone. It marks the beginning of your adult years. And while the numbers may reflect that legally you are a man, in my eyes you are and forever will be my little boy. I am so proud of the person you are growing in to. And I admit that when people compliment your or comment on what a nice young man you are, my pride swells because I'd like to think that I've had something to do with that. As much as you are your own individual man, as your mom I see you as a reflection of me. I promise you that I'm working on only seeing you for the person that you are. It's still so hard not to simply see my little boy who would have his bottle of chocolate milk with him everywhere he went.
We've grown up together, you and I. I certainly haven't been a true adult the entire time that you've been in my life, but we figured it out together. It's been a Hell of a roller coaster ride, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
There are moments I catch myself just staring at you; from across the table, across the room, or simply out of the corner of my eye in the car. I can't believe you've grown into such a smart, funny, and kind human being. It feels like it happened over night. I closed my eyes holding my sweet toddler, and when I opened them, a grown man stood before me. You have given me so many great things to be proud of, but none greater than simply being my son.
It has been so much fun getting to know you. The nights I spent rocking you and breathing in that new baby smell. I wondered who you were going to be; what type of man you would be.
It turns out you are entirely different now than you were as a toddler. You do things on your own time, and not when someone thinks you should. You have a laugh that's infectious. It's one of those deep, full laughs that makes my heart melt when I hear it. You're so loving, and never one turn down a hug, even if it's from your mother in public.
And now with university in your near future, here's a bit of motherly advice. Some I was told at your age, some I've picked up along the way -- all things I wish I had listened to at 18:
* If a job is worth doing, it's worth doing well (learned that from my grandma)
* Never leave the house without wearing a clean pair of underwear
* Manners, while seemingly small and insignificant, will carry you far in life. The simple act of saying please and thank you, holding open a door for someone, or giving up your seat,
speaks volumes about your character
* Your parents are only a phone call away -- even if it's 3 am
* Mistakes do not define us. We all make them. They are teachable moments. Learn from
them and move on.
* Treat every young lady with the respect she deserves
* Speak with confidence. Not everyone will want to listen to a "kid", but educate yourself
about your opinions, and don't be afraid to make your voice heard.
* Sometimes you will be wrong. Don't be too proud to admit when you are.
* Look people in the eye and use a firm handshake
* Those 8 am university classes may seem like a good idea when you're making your schedule. I promise they aren't. Never take classes that early.
* Never be afraid to ask for help. A fool is the man who thinks he knows everything and refuses to ask questions.
* God gave us mouths that close and ears that don't. Be a good listener.
* The most important sex organ is your brain.....intelligence is sexy.
* Face your problems head on. Don't run away; they will just chase you. Stand and deal.
And at the end of the day, don't forget to be awesome.
Love you forever;
Mom

Movie Mania
OK, so I decided to do a few fun link up ideas from other bloggers that I read. This one is all about my love of the silver screen. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a bit of a cinephile. I have a great love and appreciation for good movies.
This challenge was to go to the IMDB (the internet movie database), and for every year you've been alive, look at the top 10 movies from EACH year (that's almost 4 decades people). From these top 10 (per year) make a list of those movies that you love. You know, the ones you own on DVD, can regurgitate lines from and will watch repeatedly without question. After you've compiled your list (which trust me, will be massive), post your top 15 choices on your blog.
This list posted a HUGE challenge to me. When I initially listed the movies that I loved from the IMDB database, it was a massive list (73 movies). So here is my "whittled down" list of my top 15 in order of their date of release.

ANNIE (1982)
FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH (1982)
"Does Barry Manilow know that you raid his wardrobe?"

FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH (1982)
"Aloha, Mr. Hand"
THE BREAKFAST CLUB (1985)
"Does Barry Manilow know that you raid his wardrobe?"
THE PRINCESS BRIDE (1987)
"No matter what anyone tells you, words and ideas can change the world"
TOMBSTONE (1993)
GOOD WILL HUNTING (1997)
"You'll have bad times, but it'll always wake you up to the good stuff you weren't paying attention to"
MEAN GIRLS (2004)
"Yeah, no. Don't put me down for cardio"
HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE (2013)
"Fear does not work as long as there is hope"
BIG HERO 6 (2014)
"There are no red lights during car chases"
TOMBSTONE (1993)
"You gonna do somethin'? Or are you just gonna stand there and bleed?"
THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION (1994)
"You either get busy living, or you get busy dying"
FORREST GUMP (1994)
"My name is Forrest Gump. You can call me Forrest Gump."
GOOD WILL HUNTING (1997)
"You'll have bad times, but it'll always wake you up to the good stuff you weren't paying attention to"
MEAN GIRLS (2004)
"Get in loser, we're going shopping"
OK, I know I'm totally cheating lumping these three movies together, but they are really just one big epically awesome movie, plus it's my blog so I do what I want. :)
"Sometimes the truth isn't good enough, sometimes people deserve more. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded
STAR TREK (2009)
Kirk: "Who was that pointy eared bastard?" Bones: "I don't know, but I like him."
PITCH PERFECT (2012)
HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE (2013)
"Fear does not work as long as there is hope"
BIG HERO 6 (2014)
"There are no red lights during car chases"
Well, there you have it, folks. This was a lot of fun to do. Make sure you let me know if you do one of your own.

Desiderata
I love this poem.....as much as I am not a huge poetry fan. It is something I believe to be my personal life philosophy.
Desiderata
Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself to others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.
Desiderata
Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself to others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

What a Girl Wants, What a Girl Needs
I've been doing some self-reflection lately. I have been debating things I need vs things I want. You know like "I need a new pair of shoes, because I blew out the heel" or "I want to take a trip to Versailles".
Sometimes I have a hard time deciding what I want and what I need, so I have decided to ask my good friend the Google for help.
Erin WANTS a burrito
You know what, Google? A burrito would be pretty good right now. I'm never one to turn down good Mexican food.
Erin NEEDS another miracle
Well, I don't know if that's necessarily true. I guess it would depend on what kind of miracle we're talking about. I mean, my life is pretty darn good right now. Although I wouldn't say no to winning the lottery or one of the STARS houses.
Erin WANTS to start Highland dancing
Well, I do need to start some sort of fun new fitness regime to keep me motivated to exercise. I'm not sure how much sweating and cardio can be gained from Highland dancing though.
Erin NEEDS a kidney
Nope, I think you're off your game a bit today, Google. My kidney function is pretty normal. But thanks for the concern.
Erin WANTS this stuff on Pinterest
This is an easy one. All you have to do is follow me on Pinterest and find the "My Wishlist" board. That pretty much sums this one up.
Erin NEEDS a new car
Man, I just bought a new car....well van. But still, Google, I think anything more would be excessive.
Erin WANTS to see you at the show
Wait! What show? Am I doing another show?!? I don't even know what show LMT is doing this year. But if I DID do a show, I would certainly want to see you all there.
Erin NEEDS to get her shit together
Well, that's a given. I always feel this way. I need to get more organized, straighten up my house, lose some weight......yeah, having my shit together would be a good thing. Sorry I said *shit* mom. I blame Google.
Erin WANTS to be a zombie
As much as I would love to attain immortality, I don't think becoming a zombie is the way to go. I'm not much into the idea of eating flesh, or brains, or bones, or whatever it is that zombies eat.
Erin NEEDS to have a baby
Sorry, Google. Once again you seem to be out of the loop. My baby having days are over. As it stands my youngest child is 10. I am DONE with babies....unless I have more nieces or nephews....or wait a few more years for grandchildren.
